Otomo Katsuhiro
Otomo Katsuhiro (Japanese: Otomo Katsuhiro/Ootomo Katsuhiro, Romanized: Otomo Katsuhiro, April 14, 1954 -) is a Japanese cartoonist and animation director. He was born in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. He made his debut in 1973 with "Manga ACTION". Representative works include "Child's Dream" and "Akira". With an innovative style that was not seen in Japanese comics at the time, such as detailed drawing of even lines that did not rely on brush strokes, and complex perspective picture composition, it had a huge impact on the Japanese comics industry after the 1980s. In 1988, "Akira", which he directed and produced, was highly praised outside Japan and became a pioneer of the "Japanimation" animation movement outside Japan. In recent years, he has been mainly active as a film director. Otomo Katsuhiro was awarded the Purple Ribbon Medal by the Japanese government in 2013 in recognition of his contribution to the field of art. He has also won many international awards, including the French Order of Arts and Letters, the Eisner Award Hall of Fame, the Winsor MacKay Award, the Prix Angouleme and other awards.
