Satoshi Kon
Kon Satoshi (Japanese: Kon Satoshi/dark blue Satoshi, Romanized: Kon Satoshi, October 12, 1963 - August 24, 2010) was a Japanese animation director, animator, screenwriter and cartoonist, and a member of the Japan Animation Practitioners Association. Satoshi Kon was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido. After graduating from the Department of Visual Communication Design, Graduate School of Plastic Arts, Musashino Art University, he first debuted as a cartoonist. In his early days, Kon Satoshi mainly followed Otomo Katsuhiro's work team, and he served as a co-screenwriter for the movie. It was also at this time that he came into contact with animation work. In addition to having close exchanges with Katsuhiro Otomo, he also collaborated with Mamoru Oshii in the production of "Patlabor 2 the Movie" in 1993. After participating in the production of many animation works, Satoshi Kon decided to direct his own animated film, with MADHOUSE responsible for the animation production. In 1997, Satoshi Kon released his first feature-length animated work "Blue Fear". In this thriller, he conveyed the story in an extremely realistic style. By dealing with themes from Japanese idol culture, Kon accurately conveyed the characters' emotions and people's inner reflections, which caused a sensation in the Western world, which was new to Japanese animation works at the time. Later, as an independent director who did not belong to any animation production company, he released important masterpieces such as "Millennium Actress" in 2002 and "Tokyo Godfathers" in 2003. These works were all produced by MADHOUSE. In addition, Satoshi Kon also directed the TV series "Paranoia Agent", in which he used "Yoshihiro Crocoabuchi" as his pen name. In 2006, Satoshi Kon released his last animated film "Inception", which also made him widely recognized in the international film industry. Kon Satoshi has dealt with different themes in many of his works, but they all have elements such as characters with distinctive personalities but close to real life, exploration and description of the spiritual aspects of the characters, and the ambiguous relationship between dreams and reality. This has made him a Japanese animation director with a unique creative style, and he has won many international awards. In addition to his animation work, Kon also helped found the Japan Animation Employees Association, hoping to improve the working conditions of young animators. His elder brother Kon is a famous guitarist and accompaniment musician in the Japanese pop music industry.
