Iwai Shunji (Japanese: Iwai Shunji/Iwaii Shunji, Romanized: Iwai Shunji, January 24, 1963 -), a native of Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, a Japanese film director, video writer and documentary director. After graduating from Yokohama National University in 1987, he began filming music videos, TV commercials and TV series. Filmmaking began in the 1990s. In a sense, Iwai is a representative figure in the trend of participation in film production in the Japanese television and video industry. Although Iwai Shunji's influence in Japan is not very high, he set off a strong Asian trend with the 1995 youth love movie "Love Letter" and the lyrical themes of most of his works, which continues to this day through the later "Youth Electric Fantasy Story" and "Flower and Alice". Especially among young people in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Shunji Iwai has a very high reputation and appeal.
