Shintaro Ishihara
Shintaro Ishihara (Japanese: Ishihara Shintaro/Ishihara Shintaro, September 30, 1932 - February 1, 2022) was a Japanese right-wing politician and writer who served as a member of the House of Representatives and a representative of the Japan Reform Association. Born in Suma Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, graduated from Hitotsubashi University Faculty of Law. He has successively served as a member of the Senate (elected for 1 term, 1968-1972), a member of the House of Representatives (elected for 9 terms, 1972-1995, 2012-2014), Director of the Environment Agency (1976-1977), Minister of Transportation (1987-1988), and Governor of Tokyo (elected 4 times, 1999-2012). In October 2012, he resigned as the governor of Tokyo and formed a new party to return to national politics. He planned to form a "third major alliance" with the Japan Reform Association and the People's Party to overthrow the post-war bureaucratic dominance system. On December 16, 2014, he lost the 47th general election for members of the Japanese House of Representatives and announced his retirement from politics.
