Dick Cheney
Richard Bruce "Dick" Cheney (English: Richard Bruce "Dick" Cheney, January 30, 1941 - November 3, 2025), American politician, 46th Vice President of the United States. Cheney is widely considered the most powerful vice president in American history. Cheney was born on January 30, 1941 at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the Midwestern United States. His father was a civil servant serving in the United States Department of the Interior. In his youth, Cheney was prosecuted many times for drunk driving. When he was studying at Yale University, he was forced to drop out due to poor grades and then worked as a lineman for an electric power company. Cheney later transferred to the University of Wyoming, where he received bachelor's and master's degrees in political science. While studying for a doctorate in political science at the University of Wisconsin in 1969, Cheney interned with the federal government. He was appreciated by Rumsfeld and was selected by him as a special assistant. In 1971, he transferred to the White House. During Ford's presidency, Cheney succeeded Rumsfeld as White House chief of staff. After Ford lost his reelection bid in 1977 and left office, Cheney returned to Wyoming to settle down. Two years later (1979), he was elected as Wyoming's only federal representative. He was re-elected five times and became the Republican whip of the House of Representatives in 1989. When George H.W. Bush became president, Cheney became Secretary of Defense in 1989 and experienced the historical events of the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin Wall. He was one of the planners during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. When Bill Clinton became president in 1993, Cheney left politics, first briefly serving at the American Enterprise Institute, a right-wing think tank, and then as chairman and CEO of Halliburton Corporation (Halliburton) from 1995 to 2000. In the 2000 U.S. presidential election, George W. Bush won the Republican primary, and George W. Bush later invited Cheney to serve as his vice presidential candidate. Cheney, who was 59 years old at the time, had been treated for heart disease many times, but Bush still supported him many times and made him agree to become the vice presidential candidate. Bush eventually narrowly defeated Al Gore in the electoral vote and was elected President of the United States. Shortly after taking office, the September 11th Incident occurred in the United States, and the United States launched a series of anti-terrorism activities. Cheney was also one of the planners. Like Bush and then Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, he was a hawk, emphasizing unilateralism and the use of tough military means to resolve foreign relations. In the 2004 US presidential election, he was successfully re-elected together with George W. Bush. When the United States suffered in the Iraq War
