George Herbert Walker Bush
George Herbert Walker Bush (English: George Herbert Walker Bush, June 12, 1924 - November 30, 2018), American politician, 41st President of the United States. He has successively served as Vice President of the United States, Representative of the United States Congress, Director of the U.S. Liaison Office in Beijing, and Director of Central Intelligence. He is often called Bush Senior to distinguish him from his eldest son, Bush Junior, the 43rd President of the United States. In the 1988 U.S. presidential election, Bush inherited the halo of Ronald Reagan and was overwhelmingly elected president. The most well-known achievement during his presidency was the 1991 Persian Gulf War, in which the United States successfully defeated Iraq and imposed economic sanctions. Soon after, the Soviet Union collapsed, the Cold War ended, and the United States established its international status as the world's policeman and superpower. Due to domestic economic problems, Bush Sr. lost to Bill Clinton in the 1992 US presidential election and failed to seek re-election. Due to his outstanding achievements in diplomacy, he is often evaluated as the best one-term president in American history. On November 30, 2018, Bush passed away peacefully at his home in Houston, Texas, at the age of 94.
