Sir James Paul McCartney, CH, MBE (English: Sir James Paul McCartney, June 18, 1942 -), British rock musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer, band member of The Beatles (1960-1970) and Wings (1971-1981). The Guinness Book of World Records records Paul McCartney as the most successful songwriter in the history of pop music. As a member of the Beatles, Paul McCartney achieved worldwide fame together with John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. In particular, he and Lennon formed the most successful and influential creative combination in history, Lennon-McCartney. The two worked together to write many of the most popular songs in the rock music industry, such as "Hey Jude", "Let It Be", etc., which are often regarded as hits in the pop music industry; and "Helter" Skelter" is considered to be the first heavy metal song in history; "Yesterday" is the most covered song in history. It is known that it has been covered by more than 2,200 singers and has been played on television and radio in the United States as many as 7 million times. McCartney's career continued to prosper after the end of the Beatles era. He formed the Wings with his first wife Linda Eastman and Danny Lane. During this period, 30 songs entered the top ten songs in the UK or the United States, including "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Live and Let Die", "Pipes of Peace" and the song "Ebony and Ivory" with Stevie Wonder. "Mull of Kintyre" in 1977 even became the first single in British history to sell two million copies, and it still maintains the record for the highest-selling (non-charitable) single in the UK. During McCartney's group and solo career, he has created a total of 60 gold records and 50 number one singles, with total record sales exceeding 400 million, a quarter of which came from the UK. His works have been at the top of the UK sales chart for 99 weeks, and his 24 number one singles have made him worthy of being the king of the UK singles chart. In the United States, in addition to entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an individual, the authoritative Billboard Hot 100 singles chart has also pushed McCartney's songs sung or written to the top 32 times.
