Jill Ellis
Jillian Anne Ellis (English: Jillian Anne Ellis, September 6, 1966 -) is an English-American women's football player and coach. She has served as the head coach of the United States Women's National Football Team and the president of the San Diego Waves Football Club in California. In 1988, Elise started her coaching career after graduating from the College of William and Mary. She has coached football teams and national youth teams at many universities in the United States. From 2014 to 2019, Elis was promoted from acting coach to head coach of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, and led the team to win two consecutive FIFA Women's World Cup championships in 2015 and 2019, becoming the second head coach in history to win the World Cup twice (the first was Vittorio Pozzo, the head coach of the Italian men's World Cup team). In October 2019, just three months after the conclusion of the World Cup that year, Elis resigned as the head coach of the US team, ending a 30-year coaching career. After retiring, she focused on promoting the development of women's football. In addition to serving as an ambassador for the United States Soccer Federation, traveling and speaking on behalf of the association, and helping to recruit more female coaches, she took over the position of president of the San Diego Waves, a new professional women's team in California, in 2021. In May 2023, Elis will be inducted into the National Football Hall of Fame.
