Kwan Yingshan

Michelle Wingshan Kwan (July 7, 1980 -) is an American figure skater and diplomat who will serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Belize from 2022 to 2025. Kwan Yingshan has won 9 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and 5 World Figure Skating Championships, and also won 2 Winter Olympic medals. She has remained competitive for more than a decade and is the best figure skater in U.S. history. Due to her consistency and artistry on the ice, Kwan is considered one of the greatest figure skaters in history. For more than a decade, Michelle Kwan has been not only the most popular figure skater in the United States, but also one of the most popular female athletes in the country, consistently ranking in the top ten in such surveys (and often the only figure skater, even after she has retired). Over the course of more than a decade, she enjoyed unprecedented popularity, earning millions of dollars in advertising endorsements, appearing in numerous television shows, and receiving widespread media attention. Kwan's experience of overcoming difficulties and achieving success has a great inspiration for Chinese Americans, and even East Asians in general, to invest in figure skating, and has become a model for many Asian figure skaters to follow.
