Philip Guston, American artist. In his early days, he often painted social realism of the Ku Klux Klan. In the 1950s, he became a representative painter of abstract expressionism with de Kooning and others. In the late 1960s, he began to experiment with new figurative works, bridging pop art and neo-expressionism to express the alienation of He's life in the 1970s. His works present a characteristic of American culture: what you see is what you understand. Guston's works from the 1970s are full of rough and hostile emotions on the surface. They not only describe some critical social and political issues, especially the situation in the United States during the Vietnam War, but also express his understanding of life. Represented as "Bedside Couple".
