Antonio da Correggio
Antonio Allegri da Correggio (Italian: Antonio Allegri da Correggio, Italian pronunciation: [korˈreddʒo]; August 1489 - March 5, 1534), often called Correggio (also translated as Correggio), was an Italian painter. He was the founder of the Parma School of Renaissance painting and created some of the most vigorous and luxurious paintings of the 16th century. His painting style inspired Baroque art, and his beautiful style influenced France in the 18th century. The master's most influential mural is the trompe l'oeil art dome fresco "The Assumption of the Virgin" in the Cathedral of Parma in the old town of Parma, Italy. This fresco uses elevation perspective, that is, a perspective method from low to high, which shortens the proportion of the human body at the farthest point. It also uses swirling clouds to create a visual illusion, forming a virtual sky, creating the illusion of infinite extension to higher places. The technique of this mural was highly praised and it is regarded as one of the masterpieces of trompe l'oeil dome murals in the Renaissance. This perspective painting technique influenced later generations and became an important element of the Baroque painting style in the next century.
