Bronzino
Bronzino (Italian: Bronzino, November 17, 1503 - November 23, 1572), full name Agnolo di Cosimo, also known as Niolo Bronzino. He was a Mannerist painter from Florence, Italy. The origin of Bronzino's nickname is unknown, but it may have something to do with his dark complexion or his common portrait subjects. Modern medical research has proven that his skin color may be from Addison's disease, due to insufficient adrenal gland function leading to pigmentation on the skin. Born in Florence in 1503. According to his contemporary Giorgio Vasari, Bronzino was an apprentice of Pontormo, and his painting style was greatly influenced by his teacher. Bronzino was also an excellent portrait painter and served as court painter to the Medici family for most of his career. In 1563, he participated in the founding of the Painting Academy.
