Peter Paul Rubens
Sir Peter Paul Rubens (Dutch: Sir Peter Paul Rubens, June 28, 1577 - May 30, 1640) was a Flemish painter and an early representative of the Baroque school. Rubens's paintings have a strong Baroque style, emphasizing movement, color and sensuality. Rubens is famous for his Counter-Reformation altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and historical paintings of myths and allegories. Rubens ran a large studio in Antwerp, painted many famous paintings, and was also a well-known art collector in Europe. Rubens received a good education in Renaissance humanism and was a diplomat himself. He was knighted by King Felipe IV of Spain and King Charles I of England.
