Bedřich Smetana (Czech: Bedřich Smetana, Czech pronunciation: [ˈbɛdr̝ɪx ˈsmɛtana]; March 2, 1824 – May 12, 1884), Czech composer. His music successfully promoted Czech national culture and was inseparable from Czech independence, so he is known as the father of Czech music. Internationally, he is most representative of the opera "The Betrayed Bride"; including the symphonic poem suite "My Motherland", which delicately interprets the history, legends and scenery of the Czech Republic; and String Quartet No. 1 "My Life".
