Władysław Stanislaw Reymont (Polish: Władysław Stanisław Reymont, May 7, 1868 - December 5, 1925), nee Rejment, was a Polish writer. He was the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1924. Remont's baptismal certificate lists his surname as "Rejment". He changed his name when he first published his work; presumably to avoid the trouble of publishing in Galicia without permission from tsarist censorship in Russian-occupied Poland. Kazimierz Wyka, who is passionate about Remont's work, believes that the reason for the name change may be to avoid being associated with the word "rejmentować", which means "curse" in some Polish dialects.
