Günter Grass
Günter Wilhelm Grass (16 October 1927 – 13 April 2015) was a German writer. He is widely regarded as one of Germany's most famous writers. He was awarded the Georg Bichner Prize in 1965 and was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Letters in 1993. He was awarded the Hermann Kesten Prize in 1995. Günter William Glass's most famous work is "The Tin Drum", which is a representative work of European magical realism and the first work in Danzig's trilogy (the other two works are "Cat and Mouse" and "The Year of the Dog"). His work has a strong political overtone and is considered left-wing, and he is also a supporter of the German Social Democratic Party. The Swedish Academy awarded him the 1999 Nobel Prize for Literature, believing that he "depicted the forgotten historical face of mankind with a playful and tragic allegory."
