What a check can catch

An editorial example we prepared for a story about Steve Jobs.

Draft claim: “Apple acquired NeXT in 1996, and Jobs immediately became CEO.”

Correction needed

The acquisition announcement and appointment were separate events. Apple’s 1997 filing records February 4 as the acquisition date and September 16 as the interim CEO appointment announcement date.
