Xu Wei
Musicians · People's Republic of China
Xu Wei (July 21, 1968 -), formerly known as Xu Wei, is a musician born in Xi'an, Shaanxi. Xu Wei got married in 1998. His wife was his comrade when he was in the army. Therefore, some of Xu Wei's songwriting inspirations came from the relationship between him and his wife. For example, the two songs "Hometown" and "Warmth" in his second album "That Year" were both written for his wife. In 1999, Xu Wei suffered from severe depression. By the time he was recording his second album "That Year", his legs were weak and his mind was on the verge of collapse when he entered the recording studio. He basically relied on drugs to maintain his daily life. Subsequently, his wife refused to take Xu Wei to the hospital for treatment, but took Xu Wei back to his hometown of Xi'an for adjustment. After recovering from depression, his early experiences indirectly contributed to the change in Xu Wei's music style in later years, from frenetic rock to a slightly more mature and steady one. Xu Wei has held three concert tours so far, and has one concert in progress. The first concert tour "Ten Years of Out-of-Print Youth" started on August 13, 2005, the "Today" solo concert started in 2009, the "At This Moment Tour" started in 2013, and the "Endless Light" solo concert tour in 2019, which is expected to end in Beijing in May 2020. Because its song "Blue Lotus" is widely circulated in mainland China, the blue lotus has become one of its symbols. For example, Xu Wei's fan gatherings often see flags and T-shirts with blue lotuses painted on them, and some of the performances he participated in (such as the 2015 Dragon TV New Year's Eve concert) also often have blue lotus backgrounds. In addition, due to the title of his album "Love Like a Boy" and his subsequent love for music, Xu Wei was widely called "Xu Boy" by his fans.
