Samuel "Sam" Hui Koon-kit (English: Samuel "Sam" Hui Koon-kit, September 6, 1948 -) is a Hong Kong male singer-songwriter, music producer, film producer and actor. Together with musicians Lai Siu-tin and Koo Ka-fai, he is regarded as the founder of Cantonese pop music. Xu Guanjie is also known as the "God of Songs", "The Originator of Hong Kong Pop Music", "The Emperor of Hong Kong Music" and "The Grandfather of Hong Kong Pop Music". In the 1970s, Hui Guanjie, who graduated from the University of Hong Kong, did not shy away from vulgarity and sang many songs that reflected the current social situation and satirized current ills. The themes ranged from describing the helplessness of working people to the mood of playing mahjong, as well as love and inspirational songs. Most of the songs were composed and written by himself, and many songs were written by Peter Lai. Xu Guanjie's works are very popular, and the development of Cantonese pop music has mushroomed. In 1992, he was honored as the "God of Song" by singer Alan Tam in "Xu Guanjie's Glorious Retirement". He was also called the "Two Musical Heroes" with singer Guan Zhengjie. In addition to his outstanding achievements in music, Hui Guanjie is also a box-office guarantee in the Hong Kong film industry. From 1974 to 1981, they filmed many movies, including "Double Star", "Genius and Idiot", "Half a Category", "The Pledge of Allegiance" " and "Modern Bodyguard", etc. Later, he developed his own career and filmed "The Best Partner", "The Best Partner Shows His Magical Powers" and "The Best Partner" from 1982 to 1984. All eight films were the annual box office champions of Hong Kong movies and broke Hong Kong's box office records many times. Movies starring Xu Guanjie won eight annual box office championships in 11 years (1974 to 1984). He is the record holder, and no one can break the record.
