Leo Trotsky
Political figures · russian empire
Lev Davidovich Trotsky ; November 7, 1879 - August 21, 1940), whose surname was Bronshteyn (Russian: Бронштейн, Romanized: Bronshteyn), a Russian communist revolutionary, politician, thinker, and journalist. During the October Revolution, Trotsky served as a member of the Central Politburo of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party (Bolsheviks) and chairman of the Petrograd Soviet. After the founding of Soviet Russia, he served as the Soviet People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs and a member of the Russian Constituent Assembly. He later served as the Soviet People's Commissar for Military and Naval Affairs and Chairman of the Revolutionary Military Committee. He presided over the establishment of the Soviet Red Army and became the de facto commander-in-chief. He is known as the "Father of the Red Army." He led the Bolsheviks to win the Russian Civil War (1917-1923) and made great military exploits. However, after the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924, he was excluded from the leadership core of the Soviet Communist Party (Bolsheviks) by Joseph Stalin at the 15th Congress of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) in 1927. From 1929, he went into exile overseas and went to Europe. In 1938, the World Socialist Revolutionary Party (Fourth International) was formed, and it still ideologically competes with left-wing organizations such as the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the Communist Party of China. On August 20, 1940, he was assassinated in Mexico City by Ramon McCard, an agent sent by Stalin. He died the next day. In August 1988, the Central Committee of the Soviet Communist Party rehabilitated Trotsky. Trotsky regarded himself as a "Bolshevik-Leninist", an advocate of orthodox Marxism and an advocate of revolutionary Marxism. The Marxist political theory he proposed and developed is called Trotskyism.
Lenin
Political figures · russian empire
Vladimir Il'yich Ulyanov (Russian: Владимир Ильич Ульянов, Romanized: Vladimir Il'yich Ul'yanov (April 22, 1870 - January 21, 1924), commonly known as Lenin (Ленин, Romanized: Lenin), was a Russian communist revolutionary, politician, and thinker. He was the main founder of Soviet Russia and the Soviet Union, the founder of the Bolshevik Party, and the main leader of the October Revolution. He served as Chairman of Soviet Russia and the People's Commissar of the Soviet Union (1917-1924). The government he led won the Russian Civil War and established a democratic centralist socialist country under the leadership of the Bolsheviks (later the Communist Party of the Soviet Union). Lenin's ideological system is based on Marxism, and the political theory he developed is called "Leninism." Lenin was born into a middle-class family in Simbirsk (today's Ulyanovsk). After his brother Alexander Ulyanov was executed by the Tsar in 1887, he decided to embrace the political stance of revolutionary socialism. He received a law degree after being expelled from the Kazan Imperial University for his participation in protests against the tsarist autocracy in the Russian Empire. In 1893, he moved to St. Petersburg and became a senior cadre of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party, advocating Marxism. In 1897, he was arrested on charges of sedition and was exiled to Shushenskoye for three years, during which time he married Nadezhda Krupskaya. He later moved to Western Europe and became a famous party theorist through his publications. In 1903, he played a key role in the ideological split in the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party, leading the Bolsheviks against Yuri Martov's Mensheviks. He inspired the outbreak of the Russian Revolution in 1905 and later campaigned to turn World War I into a proletarian revolution across Europe; as a Marxist, he believed that this would overthrow the capitalist mode of production and replace it with a socialist society. In 1917, the Russian February Revolution overthrew the Tsar and established the Russian Provisional Government, and Lenin returned to Russia. He later led the October Revolution, which enabled the Bolsheviks to overthrow the new regime and establish Soviet Russia. After the success of the revolution, the Bolsheviks led by Lenin formed the Council of People's Commissars (the highest administrative body), with some power held by the democratically elected All-Russian Congress of Soviets. A new government was elected for the Russian Constituent Assembly but was later deposed. After signing the Closing Ceremony with the Allied Powers

Roh Moo-hyun
Political figures · first republic
Roh Moo-hyun (Korean: Roh Moo-hyun/Roh Moo-hyun, September 1, 1946 - May 23, 2009) was a South Korean politician and the 16th President of South Korea. He served as a judge and lawyer before entering politics. Roh Moo-hyun came from a poor family. After finishing junior high school, he did not continue to attend ordinary high school but went to Busan Commercial High School, which provided scholarships. Vocational high school became his final academic qualification, making him the president with the lowest academic qualifications in South Korean history. He is also known as the "civilian president" and "grassroots president". Roh Moo-hyun, who had never entered a university law school, finally passed the judicial examination and became a judge after nearly ten years of tenacious self-study. Due to his interest preference, he became a lawyer soon after becoming a judge. During the Chun Doo-hwan military government, Roh Moo-hyun became a defense lawyer in the "Bulim Incident" by chance, and began his career as a human rights lawyer. In 1988, at the suggestion of Kim Young-sam, Roh Moo-hyun joined the Unification Democratic Party and was elected as a member of the 13th National Assembly of South Korea. In December 2002, he defeated Grand National Party candidate Lee Hoi-chang in the 16th presidential election of South Korea and became the President of the Republic of Korea. In the early days of taking office as president, Roh Moo-hyun struggled to implement various reform policies because the opposition controlled more than half of the seats in Congress. Roh Moo-hyun has been plunged into a crisis of confidence after it was revealed that his associates had accepted political payments during his campaign. At a TV symposium, he was accused of violating the neutrality principle of the Election Law because he said, "I hope the people will strongly support the Open Kuomintang." This led to a crisis in the party and government, and he was eventually impeached by Congress. However, the opposition's impeachment struggle had a negative effect among the South Korean people. The newly established party Open KMT, which supported Roh Moo-hyun, became the largest party in Congress in the new congressional election. Roh Moo-hyun's position was also restored after South Korea's Constitutional Court rejected the impeachment case. Roh Moo-hyun called his government a "citizen participation government" that would achieve "balanced development of the country" and "peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia" by "expanding citizen participation." Roh Moo-hyun seeks reform while maintaining stability. In terms of administrative reform, he proposed building a "competent government" and a "moderate-scale government." In terms of economic reform, he tried to establish a fair, transparent, and healthy market order. During his administration, Roh Moo-hyun proposed a "peace and prosperity" policy toward North Korea based on the "sunshine policy" of former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung. From October 2 to 4, 2007, Roh Moo-hyun and his wife Kwon Yang-sook walked across the military demarcation line between South Korea and North Korea in Pyongyang to meet with Kim Jong-il, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
