Golda Meir (commonly known as Mrs. Meir, or translated as Mrs. Meir, Mrs. Meir, etc., Hong Kong current affairs program translated as "Mrs. Meir"; Hebrew: גולדה מאיר; May 3, 1898 - December 8, 1978), formerly known as Golda Mabovitch (Golda Mabovitch), Golda Meir (Golda Meir) Meyerson is an Israeli Jewish female politician, diplomat and social activist. Born in Kiev, Russian Empire (now part of Ukraine), he was a Ukrainian Jew. He immigrated to the United States in his early years. As an adult, he devoted himself to the Zionist movement and participated in the preparation of the State of Israel. He was one of the founding fathers of Israel and the fourth Prime Minister (1969-1974). He was a member of the Israel Workers' Party and the Israeli Labor Party. Before Margaret Thatcher became British Prime Minister, Mrs. Meir was considered by the outside world to be Israel's "Iron Lady". Israel's founding father David Ben-Gurion also called her "the best person in the cabinet." Meir is the first and so far the only female Prime Minister of Israel, and the third non-hereditary female government leader of a sovereign country in the modern world.
