Tanaka Kakuei
Tanaka Kakuei (Japanese: Tanaka Kakuei/Tanaka Hakuei, Romanized: Tanaka Kakuei; May 4, 1918 - December 16, 1993), a Japanese politician and architect who served successively as a member of the House of Representatives (16 terms), Minister of Posts (12th generation), Minister of Finance (67th-69th generation), Minister of International Trade and Industry (33rd generation), and Prime Minister of the Cabinet (64th and 65th generations). In September 1972 (Showa 47), two months after taking office as Prime Minister, he officially visited the People's Republic of China, held talks with the leaders of the People's Republic of China and established diplomatic relations. Relations between the two parties began to normalize. In terms of internal affairs, his political achievements include "On the Transformation of the Japanese Islands" and other major policies. Tanaka Kakuei is the first prime minister in Japanese history who has not received a university education. Therefore, he is called the "Prime Minister of the Common People" by the Japanese people. His political career was involved in several scandals. Especially in 1974, he was forced to step down due to the exposure of Tanaka's gold veins. In 1976, he was arrested and quit the Liberal Democratic Party due to his involvement in the Lockheed incident. However, his popularity was not bad, and he could maintain the influence of the Tanaka faction until the late 1980s. Retired from politics in 1990.
