Shinzo Abe (Japanese: Abe Shinzo/Abe Shinzo, Romanized: Abe Shinzō, pronounced: [abe ɕindzoː] ; September 21, 1954 - July 8, 2022) was a politician from the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. He served as Prime Minister (Prime Minister; 90th, 96th, 97th, 98th), President of the Liberal Democratic Party (21st, 25th), Chief Cabinet Secretary (72nd), and Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party (41st). He belongs to the Qinghe Policy Research Association among the liberal democratic parties and will serve as the 10th president in 2021. Shinzo Abe was born into a political family in Tokyo and is originally from Yamaguchi Prefecture. His grandfather, Hiroshi Abe, was a member of the House of Representatives, and his father, Shintaro Abe, once served as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Shinzo Abe, his maternal grandfather Nobusuke Kishi, and his maternal uncle Eisaku Sato have all served as prime ministers and are known as the "Three Prime Ministers of the Family." Since 1993, Shinzo Abe has been elected to the House of Representatives for ten consecutive terms in Yamaguchi Prefecture. In 2005, Junichiro Koizumi appointed him Chief Cabinet Secretary, and the following year he was elected president of the Liberal Democratic Party and Prime Minister. He was also the first Prime Minister born after World War II. During his tenure, he promoted diplomatic relations with neighboring countries. After pension record issues and defeat in the upper house election, he finally resigned due to ulcerative colitis and was succeeded by Yasuo Fukuda. In 2012, Shinzo Abe was re-elected as the president of the Liberal Democratic Party, leading the Liberal Democratic Party to gain power in the House of Representatives election in the same year, and served as Prime Minister of the Cabinet for the second time. He continued to lead the Liberal Democratic Party to win a majority of seats in multiple House of Representatives and Senate elections, establishing the "Abe-dominated" leadership pattern and becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister in Japan's constitutional history. Shinzo Abe is a conservative right-wing politician who has promoted many domestic and foreign affairs tasks during his tenure. Economically, he launched the "Abenomics" reform policy to drive economic growth through quantitative easing, economic stimulus and structural reforms, and later also promoted social security policies. In terms of defense diplomacy, Shinzo Abe proposed the strategy of "values diplomacy" and "active pacifism" to strengthen the US-Japan alliance and lead the "Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership" and the "Arc of Freedom and Prosperity." Faced with threats from North Korea and the People's Republic of China, Shinzo Abe has strengthened his military strength, pushed for the amendment of Article 9 of the Constitution of Japan, and expanded the right to collective self-defense through the Japan Peace and Security Law.
