Uchimura Kohei (Japanese: Uchimura Kohei/Uchimura , Romanized: Uchimura Kōhei, January 3, 1989 -) is a Japanese male gymnast who was born in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. He graduated from Toyo High School and Nippon Sports University. Currently a professional gymnast for Konami Athletic Club, she represented Japan in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. In the men's individual all-around gymnastics competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 19-year-old Kohei Uchimura fell off the pommel horse twice, but came from behind to win the silver medal for Japan after 24 years, attracting the attention of the world for the first time. Kohei Uchimura's gymnastics style is elegant, artistic and famous for its perfect quality. He is also the only athlete in the history of gymnastics to have won the individual all-around title six times in a row at the World Gymnastics Championships. In addition, he won by a high score each time, so he is known as the "All-Around King" and the "New Prince of Gymnastics". Kohei Uchimura has inherited the "beauty" pursued by Japanese gymnastics. He is a rare athlete who can balance difficulty and quality. He is undoubtedly the best gymnast today. After the 2012 Summer Olympics, many in the gymnastics community believed that Kohei Uchimura had won enough medals to prove himself as the greatest gymnast of all time. Kohei Uchimura successfully defended his gold medal in the men's individual all-around gymnastics competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics, becoming the first individual gymnastics all-around champion since Alberto Braglia to win two consecutive championships.
