Ernest Miller Hemingway, American journalist and writer, is one of the most famous English-language novelists of the 20th century. Hemingway was born into a family of doctors in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. His father was passionate about hunting and fishing; his mother loved music and art. Hemingway had complicated emotions throughout his life and was married four times. He was a representative figure among American writers of the "Lost Generation". His works praised the courage and value of people's struggle for their own existence and had extremely profound descriptions of the fragility and strength of human nature. His best-known work, The Old Man and the Sea, is also the embodiment of his struggles as an original.
