Samuel Colt
Samuel Colt (English: Samuel Colt, July 19, 1814 - January 10, 1862) was an American inventor and industrialist. He was the founder of the American Colt Manufacturing Company. His invention made the revolver more practical and popular. Colt's first two businesses, a gun-making factory in Paterson and a mining company, were unsuccessful. It wasn't until 1847, during the Mexican-American War, that the Texas Mounted Police placed an order for a thousand revolvers from him, and his business expanded rapidly. After the Civil War began, the guns produced by his company were widely used on the Western Front. By the time Colt died in 1862, he was already one of the most prominent wealthy men in the United States. Colt's manufacturing process is quite complex. His design and use of replaceable parts improved the efficiency of the company's assembly lines.
