John Milton (English: John Milton, December 9, 1608 - November 8, 1674), British poet and thinker. He served as a civil servant during the Republic of England. He is famous for his epic poem "Paradise Lost" and "On the Freedom of the Press" which opposed the censorship of books and newspapers. Because he opposed the religious reform of Charles I, he gave up his priesthood and turned to literary creation, his representative work is "Paradise Lost".
