Max Born
Scientists · germany
Max Born (German: Max Born, December 11, 1882 - January 5, 1970) was a German theoretical physicist and mathematician who made important contributions to the development of quantum mechanics and also made achievements in solid-state physics and optics. In addition, he trained a large number of well-known physicists in the 1920s and 1930s. In 1954, Born won the Nobel Prize in Physics for "fundamental research in the field of quantum mechanics, especially the statistical interpretation of the wave function." Born in Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland) in the German Empire in 1882, Born entered the University of Göttingen in 1904. There he completed his thesis on Thomson's atomic model. In 1918, he and Fritz Haber discussed the process by which metals and halogens form ionic compounds. This mechanism was later named the Born-Haber cycle. During World War I, Born was first appointed as a radio operator and then turned to research on acoustic positioning technology. In 1921, Born returned to Göttingen and for more than ten years led Göttingen to become one of the physics research centers at that time. In 1925, Born and Werner Heisenberg jointly proposed the matrix mechanics expression of quantum mechanics. The next year, he gave an interpretation of the probability density function that later became the academic standard for ψ*ψ in the Schrödinger equation. He received the Nobel Prize in 1954 for this achievement. During his time in Göttingen, Born also promoted many underachievers and cultivated a large number of well-known physicists. After the National Socialist German Labor Party (the Nazi Party) came to power in January 1933, Born, who is Jewish, was suspended from his job. He immediately moved to England and took a position at St. John's College, Cambridge. In October 1936, Born became Tate Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. After his retirement, he moved to Bad Pyrmont, West Germany, and died in hospital in Göttingen on January 5, 1970.
Max Weber
Scholars · Kingdom of Prussia
Maximilian·Carl·emir·Weber(German:Maximilian Karl Emil Weber, pronounce:[ˈveːbɐ] ;1864Year4moon21day—1920Year6moon14day),Max·Weber(Max Weber),Famous German sociologist、historian、Jurist and political economist,He is one of the core figures in the history of the development of sociology and social sciences.。 His ideas still have an important influence on social theory and research today. Weber was born in Erfurt in 1864 and studied law and history at the University of Berlin, the University of Göttingen and the University of Heidelberg. He received a doctorate in law in 1889 and qualified as a professor in 1891. He later taught at the University of Berlin, the University of Freiburg and the University of Heidelberg. Two years later, he married a distant relative, Mary Anne Schnittger. After his father's death in 1897, Weber suffered a mental breakdown, stopped teaching, and traveled around until he gradually recovered in the early 20th century. After his recovery, he wrote The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. During World War I, Weber initially supported Germany's entry into the war, but later turned critical of the war and supported German democratization. He also delivered two famous speeches: "Academics as a Vocation" and "Politics as a Vocation". After the war, Weber participated in the formation of the German Democratic Party, but failed to run for public office. Instead, he provided advice on the drafting of the Weimar Constitution. Disillusioned with politics, he returned to academia, teaching at the Universities of Vienna and Munich. Weber died of pneumonia at the age of 56 in 1920, possibly caused by the postwar Spanish flu pandemic. His posthumous book "Economy and Society" was not completed. Unlike Marx, who advocated historical materialism, and Durkheim, who pursued positivism, Weber emphasized the role of subjective will in social development. Weber made many contributions in the fields of economic sociology, political sociology, and sociology of religion. Weber aimed to understand social processes such as rationalization, secularization and disenchantment, arguing that these processes were closely related to capitalism and modernity. Weber also pointed out in "Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism" that Protestant ethics played a role in promoting the formation of capitalism. Weber then discussed Confucianism and Taoism, Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as ancient Judaism and other religions in "The Economic Ethics of World Religions". In terms of government theory, Weber argued that the essence of the state lies in its monopoly on violence. He also divided social authority into three types - charismatic, traditional and legal.

Marcel Proust
Writers · France
Valentin-Louis-Georges-Eugène-Marcel Proust (Valentin-Louis-Georges-Eugène-Marcel Proust; July 10, 1871 - November 18, 1922), a French writer, is best known for his stream-of-consciousness work "In Search of Lost Time" published between 1913 and 1927. He is regarded as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Marcel Proust was born into a wealthy and educated family (his father was a professor of medicine in Paris), but he was sickly as a child and suffered from severe breathing problems caused by asthma throughout his life. At an early age he began to attend elegant salons or meet some very famous writers and artists, and during this period he was recognized as an artistic amateur. Benefitting from his family's wealth, he had no fixed career and began to write fragments of novels in 1895 (which were not published during the author's lifetime and were not collected and published until 1952 as "Jean Santeuil"). In 1900, in order to follow in the footsteps of John Ruskin's artistic works, he gave up the work at hand and began a journey from Venice to Padua. By 1907, Marcel Proust began to write his great work "In Search of Lost Time". The seven volumes of the book were published between 1913 and 1927, which means that some of the works were published after Proust's death. On November 18, 1922, Proust died haggardly due to an attack of pneumonia and bronchitis. He was later buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. There was a large number of spectators during the burial to commemorate this great writer. In later generations, Proust was regarded as a true literary myth. Proust's romantic works are a profound reflection on emotional time and memories based on art, and are also an in-depth experience of love and jealousy. Under Proust's unique gray perspective (in which homosexual thinking plays an important role), he also mixed a lot of sentimentality about failure and an empty and confused life. 《Reminiscing about the past》It is also a magnificent comedy that contains two hundred characters and is dedicated to describing human nature.。
