He won five Tour de France championships in 2020 and 2021, 2024, 2025 and 2026, and dominated the red dot jersey Mountain King and the white jersey best young driver in 2020 and 2021. The last driver who could dominate three Tour de France awards at the same time dates back to "Ogre" Eddie Merckx in 1972. In 2019, he won the 2019 Tour of California in the UCI World Tour for the first time at the age of 20, becoming the youngest event champion in the history of the International Cycling Union. In the same year, he made his debut in the three major cycling races and won three single-station championships and the best young rider in the 2019 Tour of Spain. In 2021, he represented the Slovenian team in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan and won a bronze medal in the men's road race, becoming the first player in history to win the Tour de France Freestyle Championship and an Olympic medal in the same season. He will participate in the Tour de France for the fourth time in 2024, and win the third Tour de France championship after 2020 and 2021. He is also the only driver to win the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France championships in the same year since Marco Pantani in 1998, and has won six single-stage championships in the two competitions. In September of the same year, he won the men's group championship of the 2024 World Road Cycling Championships for the first time, becoming the "Triple Crown". In a single season, he won three championships (Triple Crown) of the Giro d'Italia + Tour de France + World Road Cycling Championships, making him the third person in history. Participating in the Tour de France for the fifth time in 2025, he not only won four stages, but also defeated Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard with a lead of 4 minutes and 24 seconds, winning the Tour de France championship for the fourth time. He also won the 100th victory in his career in the Tour de France. In September of the same year, he successfully defended the rainbow jersey and became the champion of the men's road race at the 2025 UCI World Road Championships.
