Arca (real name Alejandra Ghersi Rodríguez, Spanish: Alejandra Ghersi Rodríguez, born October 14, 1989) is a Venezuelan musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, DJ and visual artist who mainly works and lives in Barcelona, Spain. She openly identifies as a transgender Latina woman and non-binary. She released electronic pop material as a teenager under the name Nuuro, and later attended the Clive Davis School of Recorded Music at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Around 2011, she began to use the stage name Arca, and released the mini albums "Baron Libre", "Stretch 1" and "Stretch 2" in 2012. She released the mixtape &&&&& (2013) under the name Arca, and her studio albums include Xen (2014), Mutant (2015), Arca (2017), the five-album Kick series (2020-2021) and XXXXX (2026). Her early Arca works were mostly based on instrumental music, electronic rhythms and cut or changed vocals; "Arca" puts the less processed Spanish vocals in the foreground of the arrangement. The "Kick" series includes pop songs, reggaeton, experimental club music and chamber music instrumental recordings in five albums. "XXXXX" re-adopts the organization method of continuous mixing and radio broadcasting. Arca also participates in recordings by other musicians as a producer and songwriter. She received additional production, programming, and songwriting credits on Kanye West's "Yeezus" (2013), produced EP2 for FKA Twigs (2013), and collaborated with Björk on most of the tracks on "Vulnicura" (2015) and "Utopia" (2017). She has also collaborated with Kelly La, Rosalia, Lady Gaga, Shay Gill, Hikaru Utada, Tokischa, Nine Inch Nails and Madonna. "Kick I" was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 63rd Grammy Awards, and it and "Kick II" were nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2021 and 2022 Latin Grammy Awards respectively. 〈Prada/Rakata〉 will be released in the UK in 2022
