Toğrul Asgarov (Azerbaijani: Toğrul Əsgərov, September 17, 1992 -) was born in Ganja, is an Azerbaijani male freestyle wrestler. At first he practiced judo, but later switched to wrestling at the suggestion of his coach. In 2012, he won the men's 60kg freestyle wrestling event at the London Olympics and became Azerbaijan's youngest Olympic gold medalist at the age of 19. Four years later, he competed in the men's 65kg freestyle wrestling event at the Rio Olympics, losing to Russia's Soslan Lamonov in the final and winning the silver medal. In May 2017, Asgarov was suspended for one year after testing positive for higenamine in a drug test. The Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation claimed that Asgarov failed the drug test because he had mistakenly eaten food containing banned substances during a previous competition in India.
