Guy Debord (French: Guy-Ernest Debord, December 28, 1931 - November 30, 1994) was a French philosopher, Marxist theorist, member of Letterism International, founder of Situationism International, and film director. He was also a member of the left-wing organization Socialism or Barbarism. Debord's "The Society of the Spectacle" published in 1967 is his most influential work and has a profound impact on subsequent far-left thoughts such as Marxism and anarchism. In 1994, just weeks after his 63rd birthday, he committed suicide.
