Zeno of Citium (Zeno of Citium; approximately 334 BC - approximately 262 BC) was a Hellenistic philosopher and the founder of the Stoic school. He was born in Gityon, Cyprus, and later settled in Athens for a long time and gave lectures. In about 301 BC, he began to teach in the Stoa Poikile in the Athens Agora. The school was named "Stoa" because of the place where he lectured.
