Xu Xing (March 1956-), Chinese writer, cultural scholar, independent documentary director, and painter. Pekingese. After graduating from high school in 1975, he went to Zhidan County in northern Shaanxi to join the team. He joined the army in 1977 and served successively in the 21st Army of the Lanzhou Military Region. In 1981, he was demobilized from the army and returned to Beijing. He worked as a waiter and cleaner at the Hepingmen Roast Duck Restaurant, and began to write. Within half a year, he created the novel "Variations on a Theme".
