Gustav Holst
Gustav Theodore Holst (English: Gustav Theodore Holst, September 21, 1874 - May 25, 1934), British composer. His original name was Gustavus Theodore von Holst, but the "von" (von) was dropped from his name after World War I. Born into a musical family, most of his ancestors are British and the rest are Swedish. At the age of 19, he entered the Royal Academy of Music in London and studied with Charles Villiers Stanford for five years. After 1906, he served as head of the music department of St. Paul's Girls' School in London, while composing at the same time. In music writing, in addition to boldly experimenting with harmony, he also adopted polytonal composition techniques. Represented as the orchestral suite "The Planets".
