Denise Ho (English: Denise Ho, May 10, 1977 -), a Canadian Hong Kong female singer, actress and social activist, one of the founding members of the Great Love Alliance, is the first mainstream female singer in the Hong Kong music scene to come out publicly. Born in Hong Kong, he immigrated to Canada with his family when he was 11 years old and obtained nationality. In 1996, after winning the 15th Rookie Singing Contest co-organized by TVB and China Star Records, he signed with China Star Records and made his official debut. Denise Ho officially launched her debut EP "First" in 2001 and has released 12 studio albums so far. The songs cover homosexuality, mental illness, disadvantaged groups, politics and other social issues. The diversity of themes and music is rare in the Hong Kong music scene. She has won many awards including the Gold Award for the Most Powerful Female Singer and My Favorite Female Singer. Since 2010, she has shifted her career focus to Taiwan and released "Unknown. She has two Mandarin albums "Poetry" and "Coexistence", which made her twice nominated for the Golden Melody Award for Best Mandarin Female Singer. She is a representative Hong Kong singer who has entered the Taiwanese music scene. In 2011, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his official debut, he collaborated with director Lin Yihua on the stage play "Jia Baoyu", which toured more than 100 shows in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and mainland China. In 2015, facing the changes in Hong Kong society, she left the record company and transformed into an independent singer. In 2014, Denise Ho supported the "Occupy Central" movement and the Taiwan Sunflower Student Movement. In 2019, Denise Ho participated in the anti-extradition movement and attended the U.S. Congressional hearings with Joshua Wong and others. In 2021, Denise Ho was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to publish seditious publications. After being detained for more than 30 hours, she was successfully released on bail on the afternoon of the 30th. As an artist in the Hong Kong music scene who participates in social movements and speaks out for social justice, Denise Ho was named one of the Top 100 Women of the Year by the British Broadcasting Corporation in 2016. On the eve of International Women's Day in 2020, Japan's Nikkei Asian Review named her as one of the 11 pioneering women in Asia on the cover of its magazine. Ho's personal documentary "Denise Ho: Becoming the Song" was screened at the Frameline Film Festival from June 25 to 28, 2020. It will be released in North America on July 1 and in Japan on June 5, 2021. The documentary was also selected for the special reception unit of the 21st Tokyo New Writers Film Festival in 2020 and the 31st Melbourne Queer Film Festival in 2021.
