Otto Fredrik Gideon Sundbäck (Swedish: Otto Fredrik Gideon Sundbäck, English: Gideon Sundback, April 24, 1880 - June 21, 1954, also translated as Gideon Sundbäck) was a Swedish-American electrical engineer who improved the zipper into a modern common style and obtained a patent for the zipper. He also established the Lightning Fastener Company in Canada to produce the zipper he invented. Sembek immigrated to the United States in 1905. On April 24, 2012, Google launched a zipper-shaped doodle to commemorate Sembek's birthday.
