Edwin Hubble
Edwin Powell Hubble (English: Edwin Powell Hubble, November 20, 1889 - September 28, 1953), an American astronomer, is generally regarded as the founder of galaxy astronomy and the founder of observational cosmology. Through the study of nebulae, Hubble confirmed the existence of other galaxies outside the Milky Way, and discovered that most galaxies have red shifts. He established Hubble's law, which is strong evidence for the expansion of the universe (see the Big Bang theory). To commemorate Hubble's contribution, the asteroid 2079, Hubble crater and the Hubble Space Telescope are named after him.
