Isaac Asimov
Isaac Asimov (English: Isaac Asimov, formerly known as Isaac Yudovich Asimov, Russian: Исаáк Ю́дович Ази́мов (January 2, 1920 - April 6, 1992) was an American Jewish writer and professor of biochemistry who was born in Soviet Russia. He is a member of Mensa International. His works are mainly science fiction novels and popular science books. One of the representatives of the Golden Age of American science fiction. Asimov wrote and edited more than 500 books in his lifetime. It is estimated that he wrote at least 9,000 letters and postcards. In addition to philosophy, the categories of his works cover almost the entire "Dewey Decimal Book Classification". Asimov, Robert Heine, and Arthur C. Clarke are among the "Big Three" of science fiction. Among Asimov's works, the "Foundation Series" is the most famous. Other major works include the "Galactic Empire Trilogy" and the "Robot Series". Asimov wrote many short stories, among which "Nightfall" was voted the best short story before 1964 by the Science Fiction Writers of America. He also writes mystery novels and fantasy novels, as well as a large number of non-literary works, and once wrote the science fiction novel "Lucky Star Series" for teenagers under the pen name Paul French. Asimov was a good scholar. Most of his popular science works used historical techniques to explain scientific concepts, detailing everything from the beginning as much as possible and rationally analyzing the scientific context. When a scientist is mentioned, detailed background information is also attached, such as nationality, date of birth and death, and scientific terms are introduced etymologically and phonetically. These characteristics can be seen everywhere in his "The Wise Man's Guide to Science", the three volumes of "Understanding Physics" and "Asimov's Chronology of Science and Discovery". Asimov had been involved in the Mensa Society for many years, and was later promoted to vice president with some reluctance. He said that the members of the society were "very competitive with their wits." In comparison, he was more willing to serve as the president of the American Humanist Association. Asteroid 5020, Asimov Science Fiction magazine and two Asimov Awards are named after him.
