Justin Justin Political figures · ancient rome

Justin Martyr (English: Justin Martyr), or Justin Martyr, was one of the Christian apologists of the 2nd century AD. He was martyred in Rome before 165 AD. Catholics believe that he is the patron saint of philosophers. The Orthodox Church and the Anglican Communion also regard him as a saint. Most of his works are lost, but two apologetics and a dialogue survive. The First Apologetics, his most famous work, passionately defended the morality of the Christian life and provided a variety of ethical and philosophical arguments that persuaded the Roman Emperor Antonus to abandon his persecution of the Church. Additionally, he contends that many historical Greek philosophers (including Socrates and Plato) were uninformed Christians, as he has a good study of their works. In addition, he also pointed out that, just as Augustine of Hippo later discussed the "true religion" revealed by Christianity, the "seed" of Christianity (the historical manifestation of the incarnation) actually preceded the birth of Christ.
