She has won the Academy Award for Best Actress four times and been nominated eight times. In 1999, the American Film Institute (AFI) named her the most outstanding actress in the century of classical Hollywood films. Known for her strong independence and distinctive personality, Hepburn devoted her life to promoting women's rights. Hepburn was born into a wealthy Connecticut family with progressive parents, and began acting while attending Bryn Mawr College. Her performance on Broadway was well received and attracted the attention of Hollywood. Her first film debut was very successful, and she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in the third film "Morning Glory" she starred in. However, many of the films she participated in since then have become box-office poisons, culminating in "Brotherhood" with Cary Grant. The film received unanimous praise from critics, but also ended in a dismal commercial outcome. Determined to create her own comeback, Hepburn bought out her contract with RKO Pictures and left Hollywood. She obtained the film adaptation rights of "Philadelphia Story" and then transferred them to MGM on the condition that she would star in the film. The success of the movie "Philadelphia Story" brought her back to Hollywood's A-list actress status, and she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for the third time. James Stewart also won the only Oscar in his life for this film. Today, both "Bringing Up" and "Philadelphia" are recognized as comedy masterpieces of all time. After entering the 1940s, Hepburn began a collaboration with Spencer Tracy that lasted for more than a quarter of a century, co-starring in nine films. In the second half of his life, Hepburn continued to challenge himself, actively participating in Shakespearean drama productions and starring in various literary roles. She found a niche playing middle-aged single women, and The African Queen earned her another Academy Award nomination. "Summertime" was another work that brought both fame and fortune to Hepburn, earning her an eighth Academy Award nomination. Since then, she has won the Academy Award for Best Actress three times for "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner", "The Lion in Winter" and "On Golden Pond". After entering the 1970s, Hepburn began to participate in TV movies, which became the focus of her later acting career. In 1994, the 87-year-old Hepburn appeared on the big screen for the last time. Since then, she has stopped participating in performances, and her physical condition has gradually deteriorated.
